Dear friend,
Some memories stay with us for a lifetime, tucked quietly into the corners of our hearts, ready to warm us the moment they return. For me, Thanksgiving is one of those memories.
One of my favorite memories of Thanksgiving is sitting around the table as a child. The table was always beautiful, happy, and overflowing with good food. Both my parents were wonderful cooks, and the house was full of laughter and delicious aromas. I can see my parents in the kitchen and smell the turkey roasting!
I can still see that table — and feel the warm embrace of family around it. We’d watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade together, always waiting for Santa to appear at the very end. That moment meant it was officially the start of the Christmas season.
When Richard and I had our own family, I tried to create that same feeling for Elizabeth and Zach — a table full of love, laughter, and memory. I hope my children feel that same warmth and joy when they think back on those days.

Now, as a retired (and sometimes tired!) adult, my Thanksgiving dinner is smaller, but it’s still rich with family history, feeling, and peace. I’m reminded of the happy rumble of OU football in the background, the cheers and groans of my parents, aunts, and uncles echoing through the house, and the crisp November air outside where we played until dark. The faces have changed, and the years have passed, but that deep sense of love and belonging remains. Each Thanksgiving, I feel it again — the gift of family, tradition, and gratitude that never fades. What Thanksgiving memory still warms your heart?
With love and a thankful heart?
