Campfires, Cozy Nights, and Family Memories

Campfires, Cozy Nights, and Family Memories

Fall has a way of reminding us to slow down. The air turns crisp, sweaters make their way out of closets, and evenings seem to whisper, come closer, this moment matters.

This September, our family packed up for a camping trip—and what a joy it was. Both our children came, their friends joined in, and our special camping buddies brought their families too. Before long, the campsite was filled with laughter, games, and the happy hum of being together.

Around the tables, long games of Mexican Train stretched into the night. I smiled watching Paige and Bubba face each other over a stack of cards, their laughter weaving a thread of connection that will only grow stronger with time. The children ran free, painted rocks, and turned the campground into a world of make-believe.

When the sun slipped away, the fire drew us close. Marshmallows toasted, stories bubbled up, and joy flickered just as brightly as the flames. Nothing elaborate. Nothing complicated. Just family and friends—side by side, heart by heart.

Friends enjoy roasting marshmallows over a warm fire, creating a cozy atmosphere at an outdoor gathering on a pleasant evening.

The Gifts of the Season

That weekend reminded me that Christmas isn’t only found in December. The gifts of the season show up wherever love is present:

  • Love in the bonds strengthened through laughter and play.
  • Joy in the children’s giggles, their glowing faces painted with fun.
  • Peace in a sacred, unexpected morning when Elizabeth and I shared coffee together. She is often so busy with the beautiful rhythm of her family that I seldom get her all to myself. But that morning, we sat side by side, unhurried, just mother and daughter. It was a holy gift I will carry in my heart.
  • Hope in the traditions we are planting—seeds of connection and memory that will carry forward to the next generation.

In a world that often feels divided, these quiet, ordinary moments shine as reminders of what matters most.

Living the Santa Life

Even Santa needs weekends like this.

For those who wear the red suit, fall is a precious time to rest and recharge before the busy season begins. The joy of Christmas is best shared from a full heart.

And here’s the secret: these little stories—painting rocks, playing cards, gathering around a fire—can be sprinkled into your Santa storytelling. Imagine a child’s delight when you say, “Mrs. Claus and I just went camping, and the elves painted rocks just like you!” Real-life details like these are what make the magic feel true.

A Gentle Invitation

Before December sweeps in with all its joy and bustle, I invite you to pause. Step outside. Share a meal or a walk with someone you love. Pour a cup of coffee and sit quietly with a dear one.

Because this is the heart of Christmas—Love, Hope, Joy, and Peace. Not just in December, but in every season of our lives.

With Love, Mrs. Claus (aka Lori)
